Agosta – A Sonic Journey from Sicily to the Cosmos
Roberto Agosta—known simply as Agosta—is a Sicilian DJ and producer from Catania, active along the island’s eastern coast.
This vibrant region has been both a soulful home and a creative training ground, shaping him into a seasoned music selector and a key figure in Sicily’s alternative music scene.
A lifelong soundtrack enthusiast and now a dedicated vinyl collector, Agosta channels his deep musical knowledge into a distinct and personal sound. His style draws from a broad spectrum of genres—rich in influences, yet marked by clarity and emotional directness.
His self-titled debut album, released on LP, CD, and digital formats, was born during the solitude of the Covid-19 lockdown. It was made possible through his collaboration with fellow DJ and producer Massimo Napoli (aka Galathea). The two have also launched a new project, AN-AN, which is set to release an album on Space Echo in late 2024.
The album embraces a chill-out aesthetic, rooted in trip-hop and ambient textures, but beneath the surface lies a psychedelic core—a bold, cinematic exploration of Agosta’s native Sicily. The ten-track record becomes a sonic travelogue through the island’s primal beauty and spiritual energy.
Each piece reflects Agosta’s lifestyle, one shaped by meditation, nature, and spiritual reconnection with place and people. Tracks are named after real locations and figures from his life: Mount Gorna and Mount Ilice at the base of Etna, the Carricante vineyard, and evocative titles like Unna, Three Chestnuts, Varanni, Don Alfio, and Lady G. Each song offers a dreamlike escape from urban complexities, blending echoes of Pink Floyd’s most ethereal moments, the softer edges of ’70s krautrock, and the iconic sound of Bristol’s trip-hop scene—think Massive Attack and Tricky.
The album also benefits from refined sonic craftsmanship, with synths and overdubbed guitars courtesy of Salvo Bruno Dub, and vocal contributions from Manuela Amalfitano, Loredana Poidomani, and Deran Obika.
Agosta is a deeply introspective work with a strong cinematic identity—rooted in Sicily’s contrasting landscapes, from lush, sunlit groves to stark, arid terrain. It’s a meditative, physical, and emotional journey. From Sicily to the cosmos… enjoy the ride.
